The Architecture of Riding

Most “dusters” sold online are just long jackets. A true long cowboy coat must have specific engineering to function on a bike or a horse.

1. The Cantle Split (Split Back Duster)

You cannot ride with a closed hem. Our split back duster features a gusseted rear opening that unbuttons up to the lower back. This allows the coat to drape over the saddle (or motorcycle seat) rather than bunching up under you. It protects your legs and the gear without restricting movement.

2. The Wind Lock (Leg Straps)

At 60mph, a long coat becomes a parachute. We include internal elasticized leg straps. When engaged, these secure the coat panels to your thighs, ensuring the leather stays wrapped around your legs for warmth and safety.

A duster takes a beating. We use hides that are measured in durability, not just softness.

• American Buffalo (The Rugged Standard): Used in our classic brown editions. Buffalo hide has a distinct, pebble-grain texture and is 40% stronger than standard cowhide. It resists tearing even when snagged on barbed wire or brush.
• Top-Grain Steerhide (The Urban Rider): Used in our black leather duster collection. It is smoothed and oiled for a sleeker finish, making it suitable for urban motorcycle commuting where you want the “Undertaker” look without the rough texture of buffalo.
